The Lord has recently spoken such good words to my heart from the book of Hebrews. (What a GREAT book, by the way... Read it through when you get the chance, it'll knock your socks off...) I'd like to share some of those "words" with you here.
The first scripture that popped out to me a few days ago was very simple and profound. It says:
"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." (Hebrews 1:3)
I imagined God as being similar to the sun, except that His glory is obviously far greater, and immeasurably more awe-inspiring. If God was being compared to the "sun", that would make Jesus like the sun's rays... The part that is visible and tangible to our eyes... The part that reaches us and warms us... "The Son is the radiance of God's glory..." Let's all make an effort to bask in His light today and every day...
Now, today's word was just as encouraging... From a little later in Hebrews.
"Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house, testifying to what would be said in the future. But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast." (Hebrews 3:3-6)
Wow. Need I say more?
If you don't yet know Jesus, do you know that He is inviting you to become part of His family? And for those of us who DO know Him, do we realize that He has not made us mere "servants" or "slaves", as we are sometimes all too willing to consider ourselves... No, He has made us sons and daughters, actual members of His household. What an honor and privilege.
And before anyone says: "Well, He made Jesus a Son, but He's the Son OVER His house..." Well, yes, absolutely... But check out what Paul says in Galatians 4:6-7...
"Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, 'Abba, Father.' So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir."
Keep in mind that it was pretty scandalous in those days, that Jesus (and then Paul) would refer to God as "Abba", because that was a very intimate, close word that a child would use with their father. It's sometimes hard for people to think that God should be spoken of in such personal, intimate terms. But that's what Jesus got in trouble for... And it's what He encourages us to do...
Dear Abba, yes, "Daddy" Father,
You are the Master Builder, skilled in every conceivable way... Always building what's "best"...
Please, build us today. Build our hearts, build our families, build our churches... build Your Church, build our communities, build YourSelf into our world.... May more and more people come to know the Truth about all You are, and all the good that You desire for us.
And thank You, for desiring that good. You are amazing. You are radiant and beautiful. Thank You for allowing us to be a part of your "family". We love You, Jesus... For Your sake, for Your glory, and in Your name. Amen.
